2013 Boston Freedom Rally
The annual Boston Freedom Rally is our favorite event of the year. With the lack of news coverage that supports this cause, we believe that it's an important day to show what happens when a hundred-thousand burners get together in the heart of Boston. You'd be amazed to hear that nobody tried to flip any parked cars over like after a drunken sporting event. There were no fights or disputes. Police officers and hired security walked around with smiles on their faces, schmoozing with the vendors and making sure that everyone was safe. With all of the talk and threats that were made in trying to pull away the permits for this year, it blows my mind to see how the government behind my beloved City of Boston would be so opposed to a day of peace, artistry, commerce and unity. The city shut us down on Sunday at 3pm (which is the busiest time of the day for sales), threatening to seize any property if another transaction was made. We paid for our vending permits and they were not cheap. With the Boston Common overflowing with busy product and food vendors, hoards of people coming in and out of Park Street on a Saturday and Sunday, and all of the surrounding restaurants and parking garages getting that little extra end of the week gravy, how can this really be denied? Whether you do or don't partake in pot, one can't deny the many benefits that this plant can provide to our economy.

I am a full-time creative director by day, and artist/business owner by night. I work my ass off 7 days a week and pay an accountant to pay my taxes. I spent over a month preparing for this event. From coming up with new art, burning screens and printing tshirts to cutting thousands of stickers by hand, it really is a solid foot to the groin to see how difficult the powers-that-be can make it to run (and especially start) your own business.

On a more positive note, the event was a huge success in Minutia history and the weather was flawless. We made lots of new friends, saw lots of old ones and ran into many return customers. We saw many Minutia t-shirts from all the years past, and we were honored to still be part of your lives. For those of you reading this, thanks so much for all of your support. It means more to us than you'll ever know. After all, it is the fuel that keeps us going.

Fu Xing - The God of Happiness and Good Fortune
In 2009, I started creating my illustrations of the three Chinese Gods: Fu, Lu and Shou. The three names were commonly used in Chinese culture to denote the three attributes of a good life. Over the years, the ideology behind this concept has made more and more sense to me. The Idea of "Fu" is that by cutting down on greed and having less desires and attachments to profits and gains, you can gain good fortune.

2013 Boston Comic Con
What an amazing success. Jessie and I had a lot of fun this weekend. After two long days of working our booth, we met some pretty great people and saw some very creative costumes. Our neighbor, Sam, from Monsters Are Good was awesome company. We shared some funny and interesting business stories, as well as some of the most expensive chicken fingers that I've ever had. We also met Chris, the head designer of Johnny Cupcakes, who was nice enough to give us a little write up on their blog. It's tough sometimes, having to give up your weekends to work these events, but the fans and friends that we meet along the way make it all worth it.

New for 2013
Year five begins during the cold and dark days of a frigid, New England winter. This hobby has grown and taken over our house. Our living room is now our office, or what we call "the war-room", a media lined perimeter of computers, reference books, drawing tables, potential ideas, and a lounging area. Our dining room has been taken over by photography lights and backdrops, creating our very own photo studio. Our spare bedroom, now stocked to the ceiling with boxes and bins of product. And lastly, our basement. A small space that utilizes every square inch for silk screening, so that we can now produce our own t-shirts in-house.

The juggling of both my full-time job (as an art director at a design/build firm) and Minutia has continued to become more challenging than ever. From the trials and errors of growing as an artist and small business, to figuring out the best way to manage our "free" time, there is always so much to learn. This has become our philosophy and goal. Motivation will get you started, habit will keep it going, and the desire to learn will show improvement.

Here are our new tees of 2013. It comes from a collection of art that is both new, and revised from previous versions. Garments have been meticulously chosen for ultimate comfort and wearablity.

Evil Dead Tribute
I came up with the idea for this tee as a fun tribute to two of my favorite things: metal and horror. I first saw Evil Dead when I was 9. It scared the crap out of me, yet made me laugh. I can still remember how sick and nauseous I felt after watching the end (only a true horror fan can understand the fun in that).

Skull Cuckoo Clock
This is an Asian spin on the whole Spaghetti Western concept. I wanted to create a cuckoo clock that was detailed with flourishes and bones, forming a coffin-like crest. The bottom of the artwork reads "Time waits for no man". For process shots, check out our instagram page here.

Buddha Revisited
I first created this design for The Boston Freedom Rally of 2010. Due to its high demand, I needed to come out with a different version, in a different color, that I could print myself. My dad actually requested that I do it in green. So the girls version is printed on Army Green and the guys jumbo print version in Olive. I manually printed these in house on 100% ringspun cotton. For process shots, check out our instagram page here.

Prosperity Revisited
Lu Xing: The God of Prosperity. I printed these in-house as well. White for guys and purple for the ladies. Both are printed on 100% ringspun cotton.

Irie-Cycle
I came up with this concept as a way to promote two separate causes that I really care about. Hand printed here at Minutia Studios on Natural 100% Ringspun Cotton.
